Education and Outreach

EDUCATION AND OUTREACH

I have over 10 years experience of working with schools, colleges, universities, voluntary groups and the general public in education and outreach projects.I have current local authority CRB checks and public liability insurance. I visit schools and colleges with various projects to give presentations and then undertake work on the shore with the students. The rocky shores of South Wales are an important environmental education resource. I work with volunteer and A level groups, undertaking the national Shore Thing Project surveys for the Marine Life Information Network (MarLIN).

I am available to give talks and presentations to schools/colleges and other interested groups, mainly on rocky and sandy shore life. I am qualified to lead student and public groups on rocky shore rambles and sandy shore safaris. I can also organize undertaking shore transects and surveys.

Recent presentations include:

  • Recording Intertidal Life in South Wales, at MarLIN Volunteer Recorders Conference at Cardiff University
  • Pembrokeshire Marine Code/Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum annual conference on rockpool life of Pembrokeshire
  • SE Wales Biodiversity Records centre/Glamorgan Biodiversity Action Group annual recorders conference on my sighting highlights from 2007
  • Neath Port Talbot Biodiversity Forum on Secrets of Aberafan Sands
  • Rocky Shore Ecology and Classification/Taxonomy lectures to Bridgend College, Pencoed HND Environmental Management students
